廃止

MATは2026に廃止されました。

Oxford retired the MAT from 2027 entry and moved its Mathematics and Computer Science family courses to the TMUA. Imperial Mathematics moved to the TMUA at the same time, and Warwick Mathematics now accepts the TMUA or STEP rather than the MAT. The MAT is therefore no longer a current admissions test at any UK university for 2027 entry.

The Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT) is no longer a current UK admissions test for 2027 entry. Oxford Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics, Mathematics and Philosophy, Mathematics and Computer Science, Computer Science, and Computer Science and Philosophy applicants now sit the TMUA. Imperial Mathematics also moved to the TMUA, and Warwick Mathematics now accepts the TMUA or STEP. See the TMUA guide for the current test.

The Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT) is no longer a current admissions test for 2027 entry. Oxford Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics, Mathematics and Philosophy, Mathematics and Computer Science, Computer Science, and Computer Science and Philosophy applicants now sit the TMUA. Imperial Mathematics also moved to the TMUA, and Warwick Mathematics now accepts the TMUA or STEP.

If you are applying to one of those courses for 2027 entry, prepare for the TMUA — see the TMUA guide. Warwick STEP applicants should refer to the STEP guide for the conditional-offer requirement. Past MAT papers remain useful as historic problem-solving practice but are not required preparation for the current admissions process.

対策の流れ — 5ステップ

MATの対策は「仕様の理解 → 過去問演習 → 難問対策 → 模擬試験 → 本番」の流れで進めると、得点が最も伸びます。

  1. 1

    出題範囲と自分の準備を照合

    公式の出題範囲を確認し、学校の進度と照合して、基礎の理解に欠けがないかを点検します。MATの問題はすべて、この範囲内で成り立っています。

  2. 2

    過去問で慣れる（古い年から）

    古い年度から順に過去問を解き、問題形式・時間配分・採点傾向に慣れます。直近5回分は、本番1週間前のために残しておきます。

    最新の模擬試験（specimen）

    本番に近い形式・難易度の最新の模擬試験（specimen）を、本番と同じ条件で時間を計って解きます。試験前1週間が理想です。

    本番に臨む

    十分な睡眠・身分証明書・許可された電卓の確認など、当日の段取りを前日に確定させ、自信を持って本番に臨みます。

よくある失敗と回避法

  • 時間制限付き演習を始めるのが遅すぎる。 スコアが頭打ちになる原因の多くは、知識ではなくペース管理です。最後の1ヶ月だけでなく、初週から時間を計って解きましょう。
  • 最新の過去問を早く使い切ってしまう。 最新のspecimenと過去問は、本番の難易度を測れる唯一の信頼できる指標です。最低5回分は本番直前の1週間用に残しておきます。
  • 誤答の見直しが受動的。 模範解答を眺めるだけでは改善しません。誤答ごとに(a) 誤った思考過程、(b) 正しい解法、(c) 見落としたヒントの3点を書き出してください。
  • 難問に時間をかけすぎる。 手が止まった問題に費やす1分は、もっと簡単な3問分を失う1分です。最初の模試から「飛ばして戻る」ルールを徹底してください。
  • オプションペーパー・モジュール選択を確認していない。 複数ペーパー制のテストでは、自分のコースが必要とするペーパーを事前に確認してください。間違ったペーパーで対策すると数週間を失います。
  • Q1 over-thinking. Q1 is multiple choice. Numerical testing is often 30 seconds versus 3 minutes of algebra.
  • Long question scatter. Switching costs you setup time twice. Decide once and commit.

中国からの出願者

英国出願プールで最も競争が激しい — テストは重要な選考要素

中国からの出願者は、Oxbridge・Imperialの英国出願者プールの中でも最も競争の激しい層のひとつに位置します。各テストボードは公式に合格・不合格ラインを公表していないため（UAT-UKは「pass/fail はない」と明記）、特定のスコア閾値を保証することはできません。一方で、トップ層の中国人出願者は上位パーセンタイルに集中する傾向があり、MATのスコアは面接候補者選考における重要な指標のひとつになっています。 現実的な目標は「最低基準のクリア」ではなく、出願コースの上位パーセンタイル帯にスコアを揃えることです。

中国以外の海外出願者

依然として高いハードル — 上位帯を目標に

中国以外の海外出願者にとっても、Oxbridge・Imperialの実質的なハードルは公表されている最低ラインを大きく上回ります。志願者過多のコースでは、強い書類同士から選ばれるため、競争力のあるMATスコアは差別化要素のひとつになります。 特定の閾値を断言することはできませんが（テスト提供者は公式に閾値を公表していません）、目標は最低ラインではなく上位パーセンタイル帯です。
