概要

Imperialについて

Imperial College London is one of the world's leading science, engineering, medicine, and business universities. Based in South Kensington, London, it consistently ranks in the global top 10 and is the UK's highest-ranked institution for engineering and technology.

  • 01

Unlike Oxbridge, Imperial does not use a college system or tutorial-based teaching. Admissions are run by individual academic departments, and selection is based on academic record, predicted grades, the personal statement, and (where applicable) an admissions test or interview. Teaching is structured, research-intensive, and tightly linked to industry and clinical practice.

  • 02

Imperial receives around 25,000 applications annually for roughly 3,500 undergraduate places. Competition is intense across most courses — Computing in particular regularly sees more than 10 applicants per place. Most STEM courses ask for A*A*A or equivalent, and many require a course-specific admissions test such as the ESAT, TMUA, or UCAT.

向いているか

Is Imperial right for you?

Good fit if you…

  • Are comfortable being academically stretched — Imperial students are expected to work independently and think on their feet.
  • Want to study in central London with its industry and cultural access.
  • Are prepared for a highly selective process (offer rate ~12%) and can back it up with strong grades.
  • See yourself engaging beyond the syllabus — reading around your subject, entering competitions, joining societies.

Maybe look elsewhere if you…

  • Prefer modular flexibility or a large number of credit-based options over a structured, subject-focused degree.
  • Are not prepared to take an admissions test or sit challenging interviews.
  • Want a campus-based university life with clearly defined term times and contact hours — Imperial's terms are unusually short and intense.

The admissions year

The Imperial cycle in four acts — from first reading lists to final offers. Dates shown are for 2027 entry (2026 application cycle).

Prepare

Jun – Aug

  1. June

    Results

    Open days & shortlist

Visit Imperial in late June or September. Decide which department best suits your strengths and start reading around the subject.

  2. July

    Open

    Draft personal statement

Imperial reads STEM personal statements for evidence of technical depth — projects, competitions, side reading — not breadth.

  3. August

    Event

    Register for admissions tests

ESAT, TMUA, UCAT and any course-specific tests open registration. Most are Pearson VUE-based and require pre-booking weeks ahead. Check the live Imperial course page to confirm whether your course requires a test.

  4. August

    Results

    Results day

A-Level / IB results confirm your conditional offer. Imperial occasionally accepts near-misses where a strong test score evidences genuine fit.

Apply

Oct – Jan

    UCAS deadline (Medicine)

Medicine applications must be in by 15 October. Other Imperial courses follow the standard January deadline.

Evaluate

Nov – Feb

  1. November

    Event

    MMI interviews (Medicine)

Imperial Medicine uses Multiple Mini Interviews — short stations testing reasoning, ethics and communication.

  2. February

    Event

    Computing & Engineering interviews

Computing and a handful of Engineering departments invite shortlisted candidates to a technical interview, often via video call.

Decide

Mar

  1. March

    Results

    Decisions released

Most STEM offers land between late January and mid-March. Conditional offers typically require A*A*A or A*A*A* depending on course.

The interview

What Imperial interviews are actually like.

Imperial does not interview every applicant. Medicine uses Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) — short, structured stations rotating through scenarios on ethics, communication, and reasoning. A handful of Computing and Engineering departments invite shortlisted candidates to a technical interview, usually 20–30 minutes by video call, focused on your subject thinking rather than rehearsed answers. Many Imperial STEM courses make offers without an interview at all. Always check Imperial’s live course page for your specific programme and entry cycle before assuming an interview will happen.

FAQ

Imperial admissions, answered.

Does Imperial interview for all courses?

No. Medicine uses MMIs (Multiple Mini Interviews) and a handful of Computing and Engineering departments invite shortlisted candidates to interview. Many STEM courses make offers without an interview, based on academic record, predicted grades, the personal statement and any required admissions test. Always confirm interview requirements on Imperial’s live course page for your year of entry.

Can I apply to Imperial and Oxbridge?

Yes. Imperial is not part of the Oxbridge-only restriction. Many applicants apply to both Imperial and either Oxford or Cambridge in the same UCAS cycle.

What admissions tests does Imperial use?

It depends on the course. Most engineering and physical-science courses use the ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test). Mathematics typically uses the TMUA. Medicine uses the UCAT. A few courses require no admissions test. Check the live Imperial course page before booking — requirements can change between cycles.

When is the UCAS deadline for Imperial?

For 2027 entry, the standard UCAS deadline is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time. Medicine has an earlier deadline of 15 October 2026. Always confirm dates on the official UCAS website.

Is Imperial good for non-STEM subjects?

Imperial focuses on science, engineering, medicine and business. It does not offer humanities, traditional social sciences or arts courses, although it does run a small number of programmes such as Economics, Finance and Data Science alongside its STEM portfolio.
