foundational reading and language curiosity
- Choose two or three works, films, poems, or cultural topics linked to your chosen language and write notes on specific moments rather than summaries.
- Start a notebook of translation puzzles, idioms, grammar contrasts, and examples of language change or variation.
- Work through introductory linguistics resources such as Oxford's recommended supercurricular materials or first-year preliminary reading.
- Practise explaining why Modern Languages and Linguistics is the right joint course rather than Modern Languages alone.
