概要

コース概要

Computing at Imperial College London (UCAS code G400) — sometimes referred to externally as Computer Science — is a three-year BEng or four-year MEng programme run by the Department of Computing, the UK’s top-rated computer-science department in several league tables. The course is mathematically demanding, project-led, and includes a final-year individual project plus options across AI, systems, theory and software engineering. Imperial requires the TMUA and does not interview as part of standard selection.

なぜImperialでComputer Scienceを?

Imperial's own subject page verifies Computing as #1 in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026 and #4 in the Guardian 2026. The peer table also places Imperial at #3 in the Complete University Guide 2026 for Computer Science. Rankings use different methodologies, so the useful comparison is not a single rank but the pattern across several tables.

入試テスト

For 2027 entry, BEng Computing G400 requires the Test of Mathematics for University Admission, usually called TMUA. The test provider is University Admissions Tests UK, delivered through Pearson Professional Test Centres. The UAT-UK course list records required modules as N/A for BEng Computing G400.

Imperial applicants may choose either the 12–16 October 2026 sitting or the 4–8 January 2027 sitting, but each candidate may sit only once per admissions cycle. October booking opens on 20 July 2026 at 15:00 UK time and closes on 28 September 2026 at 18:00 UK time. January booking opens on 26 October 2026 at 15:00 UK time and closes on 21 December 2026 at 18:00 UK time.

The test matters because it gives Imperial another way to compare applicants taking different qualifications. In reality, you should not treat TMUA as an add-on after the personal statement. Preparation should focus on mathematical argument, time pressure and clear problem solving rather than trying to memorise computing facts.

For international applicants, TMUA is one of the most portable pieces of evidence in the file. Candidates in China, Hong Kong and Macau should note that UAT-UK applies restricted TMUA sitting dates in those regions. No official TMUA cut-off or weighting was verified.

Imperial official pages say Computing interviews are not standard, but may be offered to some candidates at the discretion of admissions tutors.

This means preparation should not be built around rehearsing a fixed interview format. It helps to be ready to explain your projects, mathematical choices and debugging decisions clearly if you are invited.

A strong approach is to treat any discretionary interview as a conversation about reasoning. A strong answer usually shows the route you took, the false starts you noticed and the correction you made.

The listed criteria cover academic profile and subject fit, TMUA performance, a discretionary interview if offered, personal-statement evidence, the UCAS reference, educational context and mitigating circumstances. No official TMUA cut-off or weighting was verified.

In practice, your file needs to make one coherent case. It should show advanced mathematical readiness, credible computing engagement and enough reflection to make your project work more than a list of tools.

Section 07

Personal Statement のコツ

Handwritten notes and a laptop open to a draft document

Do not write a statement that only lists programming languages. A strong approach is to choose two or three examples that show how you think: an algorithm you improved, a bug you traced, a proof you understood, or a system you built and tested.

The course has a required TMUA, so the statement does not need to prove your mathematical ability on its own. It still helps to show that you enjoy mathematical reasoning, because the first two years include calculus, discrete mathematics, logic, linear algebra, algorithms, probability and statistics.

A weaker statement says, “I am passionate about AI.” A stronger one explains what dataset you used, what baseline you set, what failed, what you changed and what you learned from the errors.

  2. 02プロジェクト概要
  3. 03実施内容
  4. 04困難
  5. 05解決策
  6. 06振り返り

They are still useful because Computing admissions rewards evidence of reasoning, testing and reflection.

A good project does not need to be large. It needs to be explainable: the problem, the constraint, the method, the failure mode and the improvement.

It also suggests an algorithmic problem-solving journal covering graphs, dynamic programming and number theory, with proofs of correctness and complexity notes. A third suggested route is a data or machine-learning project with a public dataset, a baseline, leakage checks, multiple models and error analysis.

The resource list is editorial and should not be presented as Imperial-recommended. Use it to build depth, not to create a long list of names.

These are support, not substitute.

  • Read one algorithms text slowly enough to reproduce the reasoning, not just the result.:

  • Work through a systems resource if your projects mostly use high-level libraries.:

  • Keep a short problem-solving log for proofs, complexity and debugging decisions.:

  • Use a course-style resource to fill gaps in discrete mathematics or algorithms.:

  • Write short reflections after each project, because reflection is usually more persuasive than volume.:

Five editorial books: Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs The Algorithm Design Manual Computer Systems: A Programmer's Perspective, Algorithms to Live By, and Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software. It does not provide verified URLs for these titles, so this draft does not add external book links.

Use these selectively: an algorithms course supports TMUA-style reasoning, a systems course supports the first-year computer systems and architecture material, and a project course supports practical programming.

A strong approach is to choose resources that match a weakness in your application. If your school work is mathematically strong but light on programming, build and test something. If your projects are strong but informal, write down the algorithmic argument behind them.

卒業後のキャリア

Imperial's 2023 undergraduate Graduate Outcomes extract for Computing records employment sectors including information and communications, financial and insurance, professional, scientific and technical, manufacturing, administrative and support services, and education. The same extract includes an "Other, uncoded or smaller sectors" balancing category, so the visible percentages should be treated as a partial 2023 snapshot rather than a complete map of every destination. This does not mean applicants should write career-led statements; it means the course has obvious links to software, systems, data and quantitative work.

Section 12

特別な事情について

Imperial contextual admissions may provide a guaranteed minimum offer to eligible applicants. Eligibility Relevant widening-participation circumstances can include care experience, estrangement, refugee or asylum-seeker background and caring responsibilities, but course-level eligibility and benefit must be checked.

Applicants without Further Mathematics should use the UCAS reference or school context to explain genuine subject-availability limitations. International applicants should not assume UK contextual flags automatically apply.

よくあるご質問

A*A*A at A-Level with A* in Mathematics. Most strong applicants offer Further Mathematics and a third subject from Computer Science, Physics or another rigorous discipline. The IB equivalent is 41 points with 7,6,6 at Higher Level including Mathematics. Confirm the latest offer on the official Imperial Computing course page.
Yes. Imperial states that all Computing applicants must sit the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) as part of the application process for this course. Register on the official UAT-UK site and book either the October or January sitting.
Interviews are not part of the standard selection. Imperial Computing makes the majority of its offers based on UCAS application, predicted grades, the personal statement and the TMUA. A small number of borderline applicants may be invited to a discretionary technical interview.
For 2027 entry, Imperial’s standard UCAS deadline is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time. Medicine has the earlier deadline of 15 October 2026. Always confirm the live deadline on the official UCAS website before submitting.
No. Unlike Oxford or Cambridge, Imperial does not run a collegiate undergraduate admissions process. You apply directly to Imperial College London for a specific course, and admissions are handled centrally by the relevant academic department.
Yes. The UCAS rule that prevents you applying to both Oxford and Cambridge does not extend to Imperial. Many applicants list Imperial alongside one of Oxford or Cambridge.
